Point and Click Linux by Robin Miller

Point and Click Linux is a terrific book for the first time user, geared to get a novice up and running with a minimum amount of fuss.

The book is well written with easy to understand text and graphics. The novice user will be able to use, install and configure a complete linux operating system very rapidly.

The included SimplyMEPIS linux cd allows a novice to try linux without touching the installed operating system, making the transition to the linux environment as easy as possible. By starting from the cd to see what the environment is like, the novice user is able to fall back to the installed operating system if needed.

One nice feature when booting from the cd is the ability to partition the hard drive with a graphical user interface. This gives the user a choice of dual booting both the original operating system and SimplyMEPIS. There is also an option to do a full install of SimplyMEPIS; the full install took me around 20 minutes to complete on a Celeron 400mhz machine.

Robin, or Roblimo as his friends would say, also includes a DVD with video instructions on how to use SimplyMEPIS. Topics of interest to the novice user are explained in this DVD in a clear and easy to understand format.
